The Market Kitchen – where culinary inspiration and education meet.
Welcome to The Market Kitchen, St. Lawrence Market’s cooking school and event space. It’s a hot destination for foodies, where you can work with the freshest seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, and exotic international products – all found right here in Toronto’s world famous market.
Miele has outfitted The Miele Gallery at the Market Kitchen so you can learn to cook with state of the art appliances. But it’s not just a kitchen: it’s a culinary centre – for cooking workshops, product launches, and demonstrations with top chefs, or for food-centric private events like teambuilding dinners and family parties.
We offer several types of hands-on cooking classes. Our ‘farmhouse-inspired’ classes are held on Saturdays and are perfect for beginner chefs who want to learn the basics of baking or classic cooking techniques. Classes are small – usually 12 to 15 people – and cost $40 plus HST/person.
•’Make & Take’ classes – whether pies, preserves or even Chinese dumplings, you work as part of a team to create your own personal stash to take home.
•’Secrets Of’ classes – such as braising, roasting or pizza making. We’ll teach you tips and tricks that make recipe reading easier and produce fabulous end results.
If you are looking for an alternative to dining out, Friday night dinner party classes are held in the winter and spring. These classes are designed to help you entertain at home, and are a great way to explore the diverse ingredients SLM has to offer. These ‘Taste Of’ classes allow you to work as part of a team to create a culturally-themed meal, inspired by places such as Tuscany, Morocco or Provence. Then, sit down and enjoy being served a three course meal that you helped prepare! Includes cheese and wine pairing tips. Wine and beer are for sale by the glass. Classes are usually about 16 to 20 people and cost $75 plus HST/person.
